  The Gardiners of Narragansett: being a genealogy of the descendants of George Gardiner the colonist, 1638, online at Ancestry.com. 56 "Dorcas Gardiner." Dr. MacSparran speaks of Mrs. Sherman, in his Diary, calling her "Widow Shearman," Aug. 27, 1751, and saying that she had sent him "some rare ripe Peaches." Abiel Sherman died before 1746, he being called in the entry of his daughter Hannah's marriage, Dec. 9, 1742, "the late Abiel Sherman." 134 "Dorcas Gardiner Sherman." Dorcas Gardiner was a daughter of William, the fourth son of the original George. She was born about 1690 and died in 1762. Abiel Sherman died by, or before, 1742, being called "the late" in the Narragansett Register, on Dec. 9th of that year. Dr. MacSparran speaks of Mrs. Sherman in his Diary. (See Note 56.)
