  • Notes

    • Judy remembers her granfather as an avid gardener. He used to "tickle" the tomato flowers with a paintbrush to help the bees pollinate. The squirrels rode on hs sholder and searched his pockets for treats. he told great stories about serving as a gunner observer on a DH-4 during World War 1. He said the fllyers would often throw tools at one another to knock each other out of the sky. Before the war, he and Paul Hurst worked in silent films as bit actors. ( Paul was later filmed as t the Yankee soldier on the stairway at Tara, the soldier Scarlett shot in Gone with The Wind. ) Wilmot was a world renown grain chemist who traveled as the guest of many governments, teaching them how to grow better grain. After his retirement he entertained neighborhood children by burying costume jewelry in his garden and sharing a pirate map to help their search. He enjoyed telling about the mother who sent her son back to look for the other earring. His health was impaired by his exposure to mustart gas in World War 1. he died in Portland's VA hospital. Herman William Tripp--Remembering 5th Cousin, one time removed Cousin Wilmot Freeman Church. I will see Gone With The Wind one more time.
