    • Margaret _______ ODDING was born in England, parentage and place of birth unknown. She Married in England ____ODDING who died there. She Mar. (2) there John Porter. They were Puritans and came to America in the group with John Winthrop in the Winthrop fleet in 1630, being listed as John Porter, his wife Margaret and four children, and shown as being from, perhaps, Bromfield in Essex. They settled at Roxbury, Mass. and are listed in the Rev. John Eliot's Record of Members of the First Church there. He was admitted freeman there Nov 5, 1633. They removed to Boston and became followers of Mrs. Anne Hutchinson. On Nov 20, 1637 he was on of the several of her followers who were disarmed and they were among those who were banished from Mass. with her in the spring of 1638 to be among the first settlers of Rhode island. They went to the island called Aquidneck which would later become part of Rhode Island, and settled at a place that would become Portsmouth. On Maar 7, 1638, there, he and 18 others signed a Compact to incorporate in a "Body Politick". In 1665 they were living in Kingstown, R.I. where, May 3, 1665 Margaret petitioned the Assembly complaining that her husband did not give her suitable care, that he had left her and that she was near dependence on her children for support......... . The Court ordered that all of his real and personal estate be secured until he has made a complete settlement. This was done and on Jun 27, 1665 he was released from the restraint by the Court. This is the last record found of Margaret. children by John Porter: Hannah, b. ----, d. Apr 6, 1722: m. prob at Portsmouth, Samuel Wilbor, son of Samuel Wilbor of Boston. References!
