  • Notes 
    • !1)Soon after marriage moved to Champaign, Ill where Stephen Decatur was born. Moved to Dallas, Texas on the Brazos River; returned to Michigan in 1878. In the spring of 1881 they moved west to Platte, Nance and Merrick counties in Nebraska. Brothers Manford and Henry, possibly Stephen, accompanied him. Homesteaded 80 acres. In 1888, due to poor conditions, moved to Clay Center. From here James had a crew of men mowing hay. Nellie, in poor health, spent last 17 years of life in a hospital. James, also with poor health for his last 35 years. This information, and other in James' family, per Warren Tripp Manuscript, in PLT ARCHIVES, V17, which also contains two obituaries on James.
