    • !1)Warren Tripp manuscript says Stephen "born Decatur", elsewhere says "born Champaign". I adopt Decatur. As a young man, he accumulated horses and mules. He used them in house and earth moving; built railroad spurs in Kansas and Missouri; His sons worked summers for him; he hauled rock and gravel, using hard tired trucks. Spent the remaining years of his life "around Tulsa", apart from wife Lucy, who remained "raising the family" in Clay Center. 2)Served as City Assessor, Clay Center, 1908. 3)He killed a man, a highwayman, in a conflict.
