    • From Richard G. H.Knight III: At the time of the Revolutionary War, Prince Howland lived opposite Westport Point on the Horse Neck, where he had a salt works using water from the river. He was a cooper by trade. After the War,he bought a farm on the East side of the Wesport River about two miles below Westport Village.He worked the farm and made casks for the New Bedford whale oil trade.
