The word-of-mouth story about this girl was that she was kicked in the head by a horse while a young person, which caused her to be 'not. quite right'. Ethel was taken to Clarinda Mental Hospital in 1924 and was there for three years. After that she was in the Boone County Home until her death in 1930, at the age of 37 years.
