The following obit appeared in the FREEMAN'S JOURNAL, ONEONTA, NY Aug. 18, 1993

 

Edna M. TRIPP, 88, of Oneonta, died Aug. 11, 1993, at the Tripp home in

 

Oneonta.  Miss TRIPP was born Aug. 5, 1905 in Oneonta, the daughter of Clyde S.

and Cora (Coulter) TRIPP.

 

Miss Tripp had been a lifetime resident of Oneonta, residing in the same house

in which she was born.  She was educated in the Oneonta public schools, and was

a 1923 graduate of Oneonta Normal School and a 1939 graduate of Hartwick

College.

 

Miss Tripp began her teaching career in Herkimer, where she taught for four

years.  She then returned to Oneonta, where she taught in the Oneonta Junior

High School for 18 years, then served as a Junior High School counselor for two

years.  She became junior high principal in September 1947, and served in that

capacity until August 1965.

 

Miss Tripp was active in many civic affairs including: Pi Lamda Theta, the

Honorary Education Fraternity, Beta Chapter; Syracuse Corresponding Secretary,

A.A.U.W.;  former member of the board of directors, Otsego County T.B. and

Public Health Assoc.;  secretary-treasurer, Junior High Section, NYS Teachers

Association, and served as its secretary for four years;  former president and

vice president of the local Teacher's Assoc.; and served on the nominating

committee and public relations committee, Southern Zone, N.Y.S.T.A.

 

Miss Tripp had been a lifetime member of the First United Presbyterian Church

of Oneonta and served the church continuously in many official capacities.  She

had served in Oneonta Housing Authority for several terms, resigning in 1973

and served in the Oneonta Chapter D.A.R., acting as Regent from 1977-1980 and

remaining an active member at her death.  She was also a former member and

served in all official capacities of the Oneonta Women's Club.

 

Miss Tripp is survived by a sister, Mrs. Floyd D. (Edith) TRASS of Georgetown;

two nephews and their wives, Neal W. and  Janice TRASS of Georgetown, and

Sherman R. and Sandra TRASS of Meridale;  one grand niece, Mrs. Patrick

(Stephanie) McCANN of Margaretville; and four grand nephews, Stuart and

Gennevia TRASS of Stamford, Stephen TRASS and his wife, Melissa TRASS of

Sherburne, Darin TRASS of Georgetown, and William TRASS and his fiancee,

Kristie GIANDE, of Binghamton.  She is also survived by a great-grand-niece,

Andea TRASS of Stamford; a great-grand-nephew Brian TRASS, also of Stamford; a

step-great-grand-nephew Patrick McCANN of Margaretville; and some very special

friends, Mrs. Ed (Ruth) PUSHKAR of Oneonta and Mr. and Mrs. Donald and Mary

SHORT, also of Oneonta.

 

Funeral arrangements are by Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.
